The public welfare campaign Planting Trees for Carbon Neutrality, launched by CNPC, has raised over RMB 50 million and engaged more than 1.65 million participants, setting a new benchmark for the “Internet + Voluntary Tree Planting” initiative led by the China Green Foundation.
Initiated in March 2022, the campaign has already completed two rounds of afforestation, covering over 4,500 mu (approximately 300 hectares) across sites including the Daqing and Xinjiang Oilfields. A third phase, adding 1,900 mu (around 127 hectares), is set to begin soon.
In addition to afforestation, CNPC has established five green education cabins in Daqing and Tarim Oilfields, promoting biodiversity awareness. The funds are also supporting three OECMs (Other Effective area-based Conservation Measures) for ongoing biodiversity monitoring and conservation.
Recognized as a leading corporate effort, the campaign has been featured in the 2024 “Beautiful China, I am Taking Action” business climate action cases by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) and was also showcased at the COP29 United Nations Climate Change Conference.
