Tarim Oilfield Achieves Record Natural Gas Supply to Southern Xinjiang

The Tarim Oilfield, operated by China National Petroleum Corporation, China’s leading oil and gas producer, delivered a record 7.35 billion cubic meters of natural gas to southern Xinjiang in 2024, the company announced on Wednesday.

This marks a year-on-year increase of 740 million cubic meters, ensuring a stable gas supply for residents across five prefectures in southern Xinjiang. The increased supply has also supported a low-carbon transition by optimizing the regional energy mix.

According to Tarim Oilfield’s calculations, the 7.35 billion cubic meters of natural gas supplied in 2024 is equivalent to replacing nearly 9.78 million tonnes of standard coal, leading to a reduction of over 10.37 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

To date, the oilfield has provided more than 65 billion cubic meters of natural gas to southern Xinjiang, significantly contributing to economic growth and improving local living conditions.

Beyond regional distribution, Tarim Oilfield is a key supplier for China’s West-to-East gas pipelines. By the end of 2024, it had delivered over 366 billion cubic meters of natural gas through these pipelines.

Located in the Taklimakan Desert in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Tarim Oilfield is the country’s third-largest onshore oil and gas field and the largest ultra-deep oil and gas production base. Its natural gas has reached more than 120 cities across 15 provincial-level regions in China.
